As the situation escalates, officials prepare as more than 30,000 people escape as wind-whipped wildfires engulf the Los Angeles region, destroying houses and blocking roads.
The flames started at 10:30 a.m. (18:30 gmt) on Tuesday in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, burning almost 1,200 hectares (3,000 acres), according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE).
